Click here to read about China's continued human rights violations.

These violations have increased during preparations for the Olympics. For example, many Chinese people were evicted from their homes by the government because the space was needed for the Olympics.

I realize Bush had to show up because China practically owns America. But I personally think it was a mistake for the US to participate in these Olympics, because of China's horrible record on human rights.

I refuse to watch any of it.

What do you think?

I don’t watch it, but then I don’t watch any Olympics other than the time when they were held in Calgary (winter) as I am not into them at all.

Of course China has a poor human rights record but, after much reflection, I feel I would be a hypocrite to boycott an event that means so much to so many athletes and their families when my home is filled with items manufactured in China. Opening the doors and letting the world in is a big step in the right direction for China.

Our Canadian Prime Minister has only recently apologised to those living Chinese imigrants who were forced to pay a head tax to enter Canada up until 1947 and is refunding each living person or surviving spouse $20,000. I feel before this formal apology and symbolic refund Canadians had no right to complain about how the Chinese treated their own people.

.

I suppose I should boycott it........idunno.......are they having that women's beach vollyball thing again this time?

Anyhow.....I think China should have banned the U.S. from the games due to the atrocities in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Except maybe for the women's beach vollyball team......you have to draw the line somewhere.

Pax!

 I already knew it would fall apart in this house when my husband found out the times of the beach volleyball competition. I didn't realize he was so interested in a sport other than football.

Well.....football and women's beach volleyball, yeah, that about covers it.

More than that and you're some kind of sports fanatic.

:D

Pretty hard to ban China when America is worse...with it's detaining of anyone they want with out legal representation and torture...not to mention the invasion of Iraq and becoming the cause of probably a million deaths or more?and destruction of half the country.

We did and will watch the swimming since my wife swam on her High School swim team and three of our kids did as well but it was a private swim and dive club...I know what your thinking but all they had was a 25 yard 6 lane and high and low boards where the pool made an L...they also had tennis courts...our youngest did letter her freshman year in swimming but didn't swim after that...ticked us off since she had to have a letter jacket for her one letter...I don't think she even wore it.

Made a boo boo...the distance at our pool was 50 meters not 25 yards...duh

The Olympic pool is one hundred meters.

Looks like the boycott is dead.

Oh well......

(I was worried for a while that there might be a girlcott.)

That WOULD be serious.

The two goofy Bush's had a rip-roaring good time in China. Dubya even got in a pat on the backside of one of the Volleyball gals. The Democrats should have put the spin on that disgusting sight. Just think what the Republicans would have done had Obama touched a white woman player.

Phelps won a gold medal. Someone said he was autistic. His mother said he'd always been lanky, with fingers down to his knees. Then a sports caster said Phelps used those loooong fingers for speed. Unreal.

Due to the Bush administration's "the U.S. does not torture" system in place I think the world should have banned the Americans from the Olympics.

Did anyone see the American womens soft ball game. We have a girl named Abbott that consitantly and accurately throws a 108 mph fast ball. That is faster than major leagers...
